The Three Brotherhood Alliance issued a statement on July 2 stating that they would work together in the fight against terrorism and criminal activities in their areas of control in order to protect regional stability and the lives of the local people.
The statement said the Arakan Army (AA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) would never encourage terrorist acts and perpetrators that may harm the people.
The ULA/AA controls many areas outside Arakan State’s urban centres and runs the judiciary and tax collection, as well as handling aspects of healthcare, education, and road and bridge construction.
“There is still a lot of evil in the areas controlled by the AA. The AA also has its weaknesses. The AA still needs a lot of effort in order for the people to survive safely,” said a social activist in Rathedaung Township.
The ULA/AA controls about 60 percent of the territory in Arakan State, U Khaing Thukha, spokesman for the ethnic armed group, told reporters at an online press conference on March 5, 2022.
The Three Brother Alliance said in its statement that it would take effective action against those who disrupt or cause harm to international investment projects in Myanmar.
“We have not yet seen armed groups interfering with international investment projects in Arakan State. Such incidents can happen in areas where there are a lot of armed organisations. As those who govern the people, it is necessary to focus on human rights and work hard to ensure people’s security,” said a resident of Kyaukphyu.
Legal action will be taken against anyone who commits crimes such as harassing international investments or individuals, or extorting money, the alliance statement said, urging anyone who finds the perpetrators of terrorist acts in areas controlled by the Three Brother Alliance to report them in a timely fashion.
