A police vehicle used for security operations was attacked with heavy weapons by the Arakan Rohingya Salvtion Army (ARSA) in Maungdaw Township on the morning of April 22, the Ministry of Information reported.
The vehicle was heading to Kyeinchaung office from Taungpyo (right) regional office carrying police from Taungpyo, Ngakhuya and Kyeinchung office in Maungdaw Township and security police followed them for protection.
When they arrived at the junction of Zeebinchaung and Lakeya roads, two groups of the ARSA attacked with light weapons and hand-made explosive devices from a hill on both sides of the road, the report said.
The driver of the vehicle, lance corporal Shine Htet Aung, received an injury in his right eye because of the fumes of gunpowder from an explosion while the front of the vehicle was destroyed, a clearance operation had been conducted in the area with the help of the Tatmadaw’s column, it said.
Attacking police vans with munitions occurs often in Rakhine State these days, ARSA attacked a vehicle carrying members of Border Guard Force in January.
