More than 80 percent of basic education students had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of June 29, according to the Arakan State Education Office.

The department has been administering shots since June 2, and just over 83 percent of students had gotten their first jab by June 29, according to Assistant Director U Aung Kyaw Nyein of the Arakan State Education Office.

Some 16 percent of students who have yet to receive Covid-19 jabs are from remote villages, and the department is working to vaccinate these harder-to-reach populations, he told DMG.

“For the time being, we still can’t vaccinate some students from remote areas, but we are taking measures to vaccinate them,” said U Aung Kyaw Nyein.

There are about 330,000 students across Arakan State’s 17 townships, and 279,232 have so far received their first Covid-19 vaccination shots. The students are receiving China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

Ko Aung Kyi Moe, the father of students in the Arakan State capital Sittwe, said: “My children were given their first dose the day schools opened on June 2. They asked if I would allow my children to receive Covid-19 shots, and I said OK. There is nothing to worry about.”

Students will get their second dose 28 days after receiving the first, according to Dr. Than Naing Soe of the Ministry of Health.
