The Yangon-based Center for Diversity and National Harmony has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus, to be used in Arakan State’s 17 townships.
According to the CDNH’s Ko Zin Maung Linn, who is responsible for donations in Arakan State’s southern parts, the donation includes 150,000 masks, 1,500 PPE gowns, 63,700 bottles of hand sanitiser and 4,800 information posters.
“We started donations back in April. We are providing assistance and aid to everybody irrespective of who they are. This is a disease that spreads to every human being, regardless of religion, race or ethnicity,” Ko Zin Maung Linn said.
Although the items have already been distributed in Arakan State’s southern townships, conflict in the north of the state has made travel to three townships difficult and donations there have yet to be carried out.
“The three remaining townships in northern Arakan include Pauktaw, Myebon and Rathedaung. It’s difficult to travel there and offload the assistance. We will have to apply again for government permission to travel there since the previous permit has expired,” said Ko Zaw Myo Thet, who is responsible for donations from the CDNH in Arakan State’s north.
The CDNH has provided the coronavirus PPE to both government departments and community-based organisations working in the area.
Additionally, the CDNH plans to donate oxygen breathing apparatuses and equipment, as well as food assistance for Arakan State.
