Companies in Arakan State that are being blacklisted can apply to be removed from the list, Arakan State government said.

In the Arakan State’s parliament session held on April 29, U Tun Tha Sein, MP for Mrauk-U Township, asked a question relating to six companies from Mrauk-U Township the state government blacklisted.

Shwe Nan Myay, Izana Arman, Wadi Shwe Myay, Bawathit Aung Naing Oo, Thiha Yaza Tun and Kyaw Hlwar Thazin companies have been blacklisted. These companies were blacklisted only in Arakan State, and not in other regions and states.

U Kyaw Aye Thein, minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic, responded to his question by saying that the government would reconsider if these companies officially file requests to be removed from the list.

“I’d like to say that our government will help them be removed from the blacklist if companies officially make a request in the form of a written letter,” the minister said.

The companies were blacklisted by the cabinet of the Arakan State on January 1 after some Mrauk-U based companies complained to the Anti-Corruption Commission about the minister on July 28, 2018.

The minister said that the companies were put on blacklist because they did not follow regulations for relevant projects and failed to accomplish projects at a given period of time, but he could not submit the name of the projects in parliament.

Companies, however, said that they did not need to put forward request letters and the regional government will have to be lenient because the companies did not make any mistakes.

U Hnin Tun Toe, director of Wadi Shwe Myay Company, said: “They wrongly decided it. So, we do not need to submit letters. They should remove our companies from the blacklist.”
