An ongoing curfew order under Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure, imposed in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, has been extended for another two months from February 12.
People in Maungdaw Township are ordered not to leave their homes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., said U Kan Tun Aung, the Maungdaw Township administrator.
“A letter has been issued to extend the curfew for another two months. People in Maungdaw Township will not be allowed to leave their homes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.,” the township administrator told DMG.
The Section 144 curfew order has been extended in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, for more than 10 years, since June 2012.
“The extension of the curfew is expected to disrupt the movement of locals, so it should be lifted,” said Ko Aye Tun, a resident of Maungdaw.
“If the curfew is extended, it will be a hindrance for people in Maungdaw Township to travel. I would like to ask the local government to lift the curfew,” he told DMG.
Curfew orders under Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure were extended for another two months in Arakan State’s Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Minbya and Myebon townships on February 2.
