Two patients receiving medical treatment at Kyaukphyu Township public hospital died of Covid-19 on July 23, according to philanthropists assisting the virus victims.
The deceased were an elderly man with a heart condition and a woman, said Ko Japan Gyi, chairman of Laywati Kula Rakhita Philanthropic Association in Kyaukphyu Township.
“Two people succumbed to Covid-19. The elderly man in his 80s returned from Yangon and was hospitalised yesterday morning. A 70-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital after she asked for help from us. Both of them tested positive for coronavirus,” he explained.
DMG contacted the Kyaukphyu Township public hospital to find out more about the deaths, but it could not be reached.
As of July 23, Kyaukphyu Township had recorded 218 coronavirus cases, with eight deaths and 67 patients having been discharged from the hospital, according to the Laywati Kula Rakhita Philanthropic Association.
Since the third wave of coronavirus hit Myanmar in May, Arakan State had reported 1,928 cases and 83 deaths as of July 22.
