Junta soldiers reportedly took four young men from Kulabartaung Village, part of Arakan State’s Kyaukphyu Township, on the afternoon of April 11.
The men — identified as Ko Zin Myint Tun, 20, Ko Chan Myint Zaw, 23, Ko Nay Toe, 20, and Ko Tin Maung Naing, 22 — were arrested by junta soldiers near Simaw Village while returning to Kulabartaung Village from Saichonedein Village.
“Four young men returned to Kulabartaung Village from Saichonedein Village and they were arrested by junta soldiers near Simaw Village. Junta soldiers used to stand guard as Saichonedein and Simaw villages are located near the military’s Danyawaddy naval base,” said a local man.
DMG continues to investigate the reason for the arrest of the men, and where they are being held.
Regime soldiers abducted a 32-year-old man from his home in Simaw Village on April 6.
“No family member has the right to know where the detained people are being held or why they were arrested. If you are arrested, you may lose your life, so the locals need to be careful when traveling during this time,” said a social activist in Kyaukphyu.
Junta arrests of civilians in Arakan State townships such as Sittwe, Pauktaw, Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Kyaukphyu, Taungup, Ramree and Ann have become more frequent of late.
The regime arrested 471 civilians in Arakan State from November 13 to March 21, according to the Arakan Army.
