Drugs seized from truck at Maungdaw checkpoint
The driver of the truck fled but left his wife behind in the vehicle when authorities stopped them at the checkpoint.

A large haul of drugs was seized from an oil truck at Kyee Kan Pyin checkpoint in Maungdaw town, Arakan State, at about 11:30 a.m. on August 27.
“Authorities found methamphetamine tablets branded with a ‘WY’ logo and ice [crystal meth], which were put in yellow bags in the truck instead of oil,” said a responsible person at the Kyee Kan Pyin checkpoint.
The driver of the truck fled but left his wife behind in the vehicle when authorities stopped them at the checkpoint.
Nearly 5.2 million WY tablets worth about K10.35 billion and 0.8 kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine worth K16 million were seized from the truck, according to the police record.
“The border guard force seized these methamphetamine tablets and ice. The truck driver ran away and his wife has been arrested,” Police Captain Myint Kyaw Oo, head of the Maungdaw Township police station, told DMG.
An investigation into the truck driver’s wife revealed that the couple lived in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay Region, and were paid K5 million to transport the drugs to Taung Pyo village in Maungdaw Township, according to the police record.
The woman, May Lay aka Hlaing Hlaing Wai, was arrested and her husband, Aung Kyaw aka Goutgyi, remains at large.
