Clashes have ramped up between Myanmar's military regime and the Arakkha Army (AA) in Taungup Township, Arakan State, after a period of relative calm, according to residents.
The two sides clashed fiercely on the mountain road in the Arakan Mountains linking Taungup and Pandaung from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, said residents.
"We don't know if there were casualties. But the regime heavily bombed the places where the two sides clashed," said a Taungup resident.
The clashes happened near three villages on the mountain road woven through the Arakan Mountains, according to residents.
Junta battalions in Taungup Town fired shells randomly throughout the fighting. Junta aircraft also reportedly carried out unprovoked air raids near two villages on the Taungup-Ann road.
"The regime bombed mountains near Kwan San and Moe villages though there was no fighting there. No civilians were injured," said another resident.
One man was killed and at least five others injured in a junta air attack on Kayaing Kyun Village, Taungup Township, on August 31.
