A ferry man from a village in Rathedaung Township was shot dead on Monday morning on the way home to his village after he ferried passengers, according to villagers.
U Maung Chay from Amyet Taung village ferried passengers to Yay Soe Chaung village on March 25. He was shot at about 10 AM while he was on the way to his village, said U Aung San Thein, administrator of Amyet Taung village.
The reason for his murder and who shot him have yet to be known.
“I have no idea who shot him. His body was found now,” U Aung San Thein said.
But villagers gave a possible explanation why he was shot.
U Maung Chay was called by someone on the way to his village, but he did not hear the persons voice because of the sound of the engine was loud, so he was shot, villagers recalled.
