People are cooperating in an ongoing effort to place food boxes for those who are hungry, the poor and others in need at wards in Kyaukphyu town, Arakan State.
Food boxes have been placed at two of 17 wards in Kyaukphyu and the Food Box Team is seeking to have food boxes in all of the town’s wards, said U Hla Kyaw, an official of the team.
“It has been nearly a month since we placed the [first] food box. ... We have planned to have more than 10 food boxes in the town,” he said.
Instant noodles, cookies, soft drinks and water are provided at the food boxes and the team has plans to also stock rice, oil and salt depending on donations.
Every ward resident needs to pitch in to sustain the food box plan, said Ko Zeya Kyaw, a resident of Kyaukphyu town.
“It is a good plan. However, all people in relevant wards need to help us to sustain the plan,” he said.
The team says it costs about K20,000 a day for the two food boxes, which are believed to be the first of their kind in Arakan State.
