Education employee robbed of over K3 million in Kyauktaw Twsp

An education employee was reportedly robbed of more than K3 million near the office of the township education officer in Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, on Wednesday afternoon.

The employee has been identified as Daw Ni Ni Khaing, a clerk from an affiliated high school in Kunohnchaung village, Kyauktaw Township.

Daw Ni Ni Khaing’ assailants reportedly used chloroform to rob her while she was returning from the office of the township education officer after withdrawing salaries for her fellow teachers, said U Maung Thein Shwe, her father-in-law.

“She was robbed using chloroform. She told me that she withdrew the salaries for all teachers at the school. She also phoned the headmaster about the salaries she withdrew,” he told DMG.

U Maung Thein Shwe said Daw Ni Ni Khaing was unconscious when she left the office, rented a three-wheeled motorcycle taxi and was walking along a road near the local football pitch, and was about to be hit by a motorcycle, when she was shepherded into safer circumstances.

“She forgot to accept a receipt that indicated she had withdrawn salaries,” he added. “She rented a three-wheeled motorcycle taxi. The three-wheeled motorcycle driver took her to the football field west of the township education officer’s office and left her on the road nearby. She walked on a road with an umbrella and was able to regain consciousness when she was about to be hit by a motorbike. People nearby came and asked if she was robbed of money, and she said no, and cried. At first, she didn’t remember her name and address. When she regained consciousness, people sent her home. She is now at the hospital.”

Daw Ni Ni Khaing is currently being treated at Kyauktaw People’s Hospital, he added.

“She is now admitted to the hospital. The doctor said that he would check her heart and take X-rays,” he said.

DMG attempted to contact Police Captain Khin Maung Than, head of the Kyauktaw Myoma police station, regarding the matter, but he could not be reached.
