The Tatmadaw True News Information Team has said that the military will bring Counter-Terrorism Law charges against three men recently arrested near the Kisapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State.
In a statement on July 6, the military’s public relations outfit said two of the three detainees are suspected of having links to the Arakan Army and the third is a private from the ethnic armed group.
Tatmadaw security personnel interrogated one of the men after he was detained on July 3 while walking from the direction of Mrauk-U to Kyauktaw. According to the Tatmadaw, the other two men were apprehended the same day on a motorbike returning from a local bazaar in Kyauktaw after purchasing some items near the Kisapanadi Bridge.
The three detainees have been identified as Ko Maung Maung Htay, 19, from Phayar Paung village, and Ko Ye Tun, 24, and Nay Myo Tun, 20, from Peinhne Chaung village in Kyauktaw Township, according to family members.
“They sustained minor injuries in Tatmadaw custody. We have submitted a letter to the police station to see them at a clinic,” said Daw Khin Than Nu, the aunt of Ko Ye Tun.
The trio are currently being held in police custody at the Kyauktaw Myoma police station and are due to appear before the Kyauktaw Township Court on July 17.
Family members said the three men were arrested on July 1, contradicting the Tatmadaw account claiming that they were detained on July 3.
