Kyauktan villager’s body returned to Rathedaung for funeral

Family members today held funeral ceremonies for a detained man from Kyauktan village, who died in Yangon’s North Okkalapa hospital while undergoing medical treatment for an injury he received from gunfire during the Tatmadaw’s interrogations.

U Aung Linn Kyaw, 38, initially received medical treatment in Sittwe hospital in Arakan State, but was later transferred to North Okkalapa hospital in Yangon because his injury was severe.

His body was transported to Rathedaung on May 15 and buried in a grave on May 16 at the Rathedaung cemetery, family members said.

“All family members are in Rathedaung, so we decided to hold the funeral in the location our family live. The funeral rites of placing the body in the grave will be finished in the evening,” a family member said.

U Aung Linn Kyaw was the father of three children and his wife is pregnant now.

About 3000 people from Rathedaung, Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Ponnagyun and Sittwe townships attended the funeral.

He was one of 275 men from Kyauktan village the Tatmadaw detained for questioning since April 30 on suspicion of affiliations with the AA. He got injured during an outbreak of gunfire on May 2 where six people died and eight others were injured.
