The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) has captured the junta’s Northeastern Regional Military Command Headquarters in Lashio, northern Shan State, the ethnic armed group said on Thursday.
Frontline troops of the MNDAA declared the liberation of Lashio, the capital city of northern Shan State, on the morning of July 25.
The Kokang ethnic armed group said it seized the military command headquarters at 4 a.m. on Thursday following 23 days of intense fighting with junta troops.
The liberation of Lashio will mark a historic victory in the revolution against the military dictatorship, the MNDAA added.
The Myanmar military command headquarters fell under the control of the revolutionary forces on Thursday for the first time in history, the MNDAA said.
More than 300 junta troops surrendered to the MNDAA on July 23 following a clash with the Kokang armed group in Lashio.
The MNDAA also urged junta soldiers to surrender voluntarily and be given full life insurance and bonuses.
