Shops, restaurants and markets in Maungdaw town, where the death toll from Covid-19 has reached five, are only being allowed half-day hours of operation from July 11.
Several new Covid-19 cases are reported every day in Maungdaw town, and total infections in the township have exceeded 300 since the third wave of the virus began in May.
“According to the decision at the meeting of the township’s Covid-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee, all markets and shops are allowed to open half-day,” U Maung Aye Thein, assistant director of the Maungdaw Township municipal office, told DMG.
From the beginning of June to July 10, a total of 307 Covid-19 cases and five deaths were reported in Maungdaw town, with 94 of those patients now discharged from hospital, according to Maungdaw District Health Department.
From May 12 to July 10, a total of 793 Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths were reported in Arakan State, according to the Arakan State Health Department.
