The Myanmar Rice Federation has said it will provide technical assistance and loans to rice millers and rice companies in Arakan State to generate electricity from their rice husks and to produce edible oil from its by-product, bran.
A Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) statement on March 17 said rice millers and rice companies are planning to generate electricity from rice husks and connect to the national grid. The generation of this electricity via boiler turbine power generation systems will help address frequent power outages in the state, the federation added.
“Companies and rice entrepreneurs in Arakan State who are interested in generating electricity from rice husks must submit a full address to the Myanmar Rice Federation. It’s much more broadly under the heading of technology. There is a lot under the heading of remaining assistance,” an official from the MRF told DMG.
The MRF also announced that it will provide technical assistance in the production of edible oil from bran, a by-product of rice milling.
The issues of technical assistance and loans will be discussed with rice millers in Arakan State, U Than Shwe, chairman of the Arakan State Rice Millers Association, told DMG.
“We have not received the letter yet. However, if the MRF provides technical assistance and loans, we have to discuss with the rice mill owners in Arakan State. If they [rice mill owners in Arakan State] cooperate with us, we will have to discuss whether the Myanmar Rice Federation will provide technical assistance or not,” he added.
Rice mill owners and rice companies in Arakan State must apply to the MRF by March 31 for technical assistance and loans for generating electricity from paddy husks and for edible oil from bran.
