A thirteen-year-old girl from Ngan Chaung village in Maungdaw Township was murdered and the assailants are still at large, village administrator U Win Htay told the DMG.
Sawmira went missing on 11 June when she was heading off to tend goats, her dead body was discovered the next day by her family members.
“We don’t know how and what happened to her. Her parents and villagers came and said to me that a young girl who tended goats was missing. I informed the appropriate authorities for the family. No one would go out at night to look for her. We searched for her the next morning and found her body in a compound,” said U Win Htay, village administrator of Ngan Chaung village.
The body was sent to Maungdaw hospital and cremated that day, he added.
“The Case is open for inquest. We have to wait for forensic evidence. There were no wounds or abrasions on her body. We will have a better idea of how she died after getting forensic documents. We can proceed further with those results,” police officer Maung Maung Yin, head of Nga Khura police station said.
Family members and locals believed that she was allegedly raped and killed, but it’s not been confirmed by the pertinent authorities yet.
