With the results of the matriculation examination out on Friday, 19,729 of 41,775 students who sat for the test in Arakan State passed, and the pass rate was 47.25 percent, according to the Department of Examinations.
A total of 281,751 students took the exam countrywide, and 132,077 passed, and the pass rate stood at nearly 47 percent, said the department.
“The pass rate is not bad this year. The pass rate of students from private schools is high this year. In fact, they have studied for around two years [as schools were closed for more than a year due to Covid-19]. It also appears that exam questions were not very difficult,” said U Kyaw Naing, the founder of Pinnya Shae Saung private school in Sittwe.
Maung Soe Swe, who passed the exam with three distinctions, said: “I am happy. We could not go to school for one year because of Covid. I am happy that I got three distinctions. Most of my friends passed the exam with distinctions.”
Daw Than Than Aye, the mother of another distinction-honoured student, said she is happy that her daughter earned a distinction in biology.
“Last year, she failed in one subject. We are poor and we could not afford private tuition for her. But she tried hard and she has passed the exam,” Daw Than Than Aye said.
The matriculation examination pass rate in Arakan State was 27.27 percent in 2020, and 23.97 percent in 2019, according to the records of the Department of Examinations.
