A Myanmar army soldier was killed on Saturday near Tha Yet Kin Manu, a Muslim village in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State.
The soldier was from 552nd Battalion based in Buthidaung Township, and he was killed on his way to a hill camp near Tha Yet Kin Manu village, according to U Tun Hla Aung, the Tha Yet Ma Kin village-tract administrator.
“I received a call from the 565th Battalion at 8 a.m. over a soldier’s disappearance and was told to carry out a search. At about 10 a.m., we found the dead body of the soldier with his hands tied behind his back near the entrance of Tha Yet Kin Manu Muslim village,” he told DMG.
The name of the soldier had not been unidentified as of publication, and it is estimated that the soldier was about 50 years old. His body was found without his weapon.
“It is reported that the soldier’s floating body was found in the Tha Yet Manu stream with his hands tied behind his back. The weapon of the soldier has disappeared,” said Kin Taung village-tract administrator U Hla Than Maung.
A person in a position of responsibility and some villagers from Tha Yet Kin Manu village have been investigated at a local Tatmadaw base regarding the case, according to the Tha Yet Kin Manu village-tract administrator.
Buthidaung Township administrator U Kyan Aye said: “The administration level gets no information.”
In Maungdaw Township, Muslims are frequently arrested, and on August 17, the Padin (Muslim) village administrator was detained by unidentified armed men, and gold items from the administrator’s house were also stolen.
