Members of parliament in Arakan State on Monday put forward an urgent proposal expressing their sorrow for over 80 victims who were killed during ongoing fighting between the Tatmadaw and the AA in Arakan State.

The urgent proposal was submitted to the Arakan State parliament because Arakanese MPs felt the same way the bereaved families had, said Arakan State MP for Buthidaung Township U Tun Aung Thein, who put forward the proposal.

“We want to show our compassion for the grief-stricken families who lost loved ones either by bullets or bombs amidst conflict,” he said.

He added that collateral damage in conflict zones has been increasing in Arakan State.

The proposal said that there were more than 80 deaths and about 100 injured over nine months beginning in December last year, when hostilities between the Tatmadaw and the AA started, through September this year.

Local residents were reportedly killed during the ongoing-armed conflicts by stray bullets and various types of bombs.

“Some villagers were killed during detention, an example is the Letka village incident and there were mass killings in Si Taung and Pan Myaung villages,” the lawmaker said.

The urgent proposal was endorsed unanimously by the regional parliament.
