A female junior assistant teacher from Kyunpaw Pauktaw Village, part of Arakan State’s Rathedaung Township, was found dead with stab wounds to her neck at about 10 a.m. on Saturday, locals said.
The victim has been identified as Daw Hnin Yu Nwe, 37. She is believed to have been killed while on her way to Panphawpyin Village from Pauktaw Village on Saturday morning.
“We heard the news about her death at about 11 a.m. today. She was reportedly found dead with stab wounds in her neck at around 10 a.m. I didn’t look closely enough to see if she had any other injuries,” said U Maung Tun Chay, a local man from Panphawpyin Village in Rathedaung Township.
Daw Hnin Yu Nwe was found dead by the side of the road near Panphawpyin Village, with her clothes torn and slashed.
“We are worried about our safety after the teacher was killed,” said a female teacher from Layhnyitaung Village in Mrauk-U Township. “We want the military regime to provide security guarantees for educational staff employees working in rural areas.”
The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has launched an investigation into the killing of the female teacher, according to locals.
