A man from Thandwe town, a major seaport in Rakhine State, has been sued under the Telecommunications law for reportedly posting about the death of a man who was run over by a regional police officer on social media Facebook.

Ko Myint Moe told the DMG that the head of Taunggup police station file a lawsuit against him because he posted that a man died after being run over by Taunggup police officer driving a motor vehicle.

“I was told on the morning of April 25 that the head of the Taunggup police station registered a complaint against me,” he said.

He posted the true information and that there were eyewitnesses, he added.

“I hope I would not face bigger problems because I posted accurate information. There is a CCTV record and documented evidence.  And there were eye witnesses also,” he said.

The DMG contacted U Hla Tint, head of Taunggup police station, and he responded that it was too early to discuss the case.

The motorbike driver, identified as U Moe Kyo Tun fell from his bike and was subsequently run over by the vehicle driven by the police officer, said the family of the victim.

However, the police officer denied that he ran over the victim and said that the victim could not control the speed of his motorbike and the bike dropped when it came close his vehicle.
