With collaboration between the Dr. Saw Mya Aung Foundation and YUNAN AID, the Tharliswa free clinic was launched in Minbya town, Arakan State, on September 16.
The clinic was opened Thursday and will be open four days a week; on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 noon to 4 p.m., officials of the clinic said.
Daw Mar Mar Kyaw Zaw, manager of the Dr. Saw Mya Aung Foundation in Minbya, said two health officers and nurses are providing healthcare services for general diseases at the clinic.
“We opened free clinics in different townships to be able to provide medical treatment closely to the needs. We mostly see diabetes and hypertension patients. They need to take medicines for their entire life. So, we provide medicines for them for their whole life,” she said.
“We will provide medical treatment in any case that does not need to undergo operations,” she said.
Healthcare personnel from the clinic will provide medical treatment at nearby villages, remote areas and IDP camps on weekends, she added.
U Aung Kyaw, a resident of Minbya town, said the free clinic is useful for poor people and those who cannot afford medical expenses.
“If a patient goes to a clinic, the expenditure is at least K10,000. Some people cannot afford it. So, taking medical treatment at the free clinic is better than buying medicines at pharmacies. There is no risk for their health and they do not need to spend their money,” he said.
The Dr. Saw Mya Aung Foundation mainly provides help for those who are facing financial difficulty to pursue education, and for those seeking medical treatment in Arakan State.
