Express boat lines in Arakan State resumed operations on Saturday after they were instructed to suspend their routes on August 18 due to inclement weather off the Arakan coast.
The Arakan State Directorate of Inland Water Transport instructed the boat lines to suspend operations from August 18-20 due to the development of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
As the depression has weakened, express boat services resumed operations on Saturday, said Shwe Pyi Tan express boat service manager U San Maw Thein.
The Sher Lin Yone express boat service, which operates between Taungup and Manaung, also resumed operations on Saturday, according to manager U Poe Thar Tun.
A day prior to Inland Water Transport’s suspension order, three houses in Ngapali’s Jeik Taw ward were damaged by strong winds, and some boats were damaged.
Some houses were also inundated due to heavy rains in Theingon village, Manaung Township, on Wednesday.
Scattered rains are expected on August 22 and 23 in Arakan State, said U Hla Tun, director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
“The deep depression has entered India. The weather is now normal in Arakan State, but rains are expected on August 22, 23 due to upper air cyclonic circulation,” he said.
