Pregnant woman dies of Covid-19 in Buthidaung Twsp; family members test positive for virus
A pregnant woman in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, has died of Covid-19 and multiple members of her family were also found to be infected with the virus, according to Dr. Saw Min Thein, medical superintendent of the township hospital.

A pregnant woman in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, has died of Covid-19 and multiple members of her family were also found to be infected with the virus, according to Dr. Saw Min Thein, medical superintendent of the township hospital.
“The virus victim was a 28-year-old pregnant woman. Four out of her six family members were found to be diagnosed with Covid-19,” Dr. Saw Min Thein told DMG.
The 28-year-old victim was from Ale Chaung village-tract in Buthidaung Township.
She was admitted to hospital suffering from respiratory failure and given supplemental oxygen, but ultimately succumbed to the virus.
As of November 2, Buthidaung Township had recorded 259 coronavirus cases, with 11 deaths and four people receiving medical treatment in hospital at time of reporting, according to data released by the Arakan State Covid-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee.
According to a DMG tally, two women each from Kyaukphyu and Sittwe townships, and one each from Minbya and Maungdaw townships, have so far died with Covid-19 before or after delivering their babies amid the pandemic’s third wave.
DMG contacted Dr. Soe Win Paing, assistant director of the Arakan State Department of Public Health, to find out the total number of maternal deaths attributed to Covid-19 statewide, but he could not be reached for comment.
As of November 3, a total of 5,104 cases and 493 deaths were reported in Arakan State during the pandemic’s ongoing third wave.
