The Arakan Army (AA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) — members of the Three Brotherhood Alliance — heralded the leadership and troops of the Bamar People’s Liberation Army on the two-year anniversary of the BPLA’s founding on April 17.

The BPLA currently has established good relations with other armed resistance organisations including the Three Brotherhood Alliance, and is preparing for a practical revolution, the message said.

The Three Brotherhood Alliance also said the BPLA has received the support and trust of the Myanmar people and some ethnic resistance organisations during the past two years, and has gained a fair amount of combat experience.

The BPLA is fighting against the junta in cooperation with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) in Kayin (Karen) State.

U Pe Than, a political analyst, said the message sent by the Three Brotherhood Alliance on the two-year anniversary of the BPLA’s founding showed the unity between the Myanmar people and ethnic groups in the anti-authoritarian revolution.

“The Three Brotherhood Alliance’s sending of a message to mark the two-year anniversary of the BPLA’s founding is also an act related to the Burmese people and ethnic movements. From a political point of view, this kind of message is seen as sending a meaningful message. And the Three Brotherhood Alliance recognised the formation of the BPLA,” he added.

The BPLA was founded on April 17, 2021, by a group of activists including the well-known poet and free speech advocate Maung Saungkha, claiming to represent the Burmese people. It has openly declared its opposition to the ruling military regime, and has taken a position in favour of federalism for a future Myanmar.
