Young people in Myebon town want to have dustbins at Angu beach so that travellers can discard their rubbish systematically.
Ko Kaung Myint Kyaw, chair of the Myebon Youth New Generation Network, said the rubbish destroys the beauty of the beach and annoys visitors.
“We need a good system to discard rubbish. Many dustbins shall be placed for the public. And, the municipality would keep the rubbish regularly,” he said.
U Khin Maung Htay, staff officer of the Myebon Township Development Affairs Committee, said the department had no plan to place dustbins at Angu beach because it was not included in the jurisdiction of the department’s precinct.
“Since the Angu beach is not included in the precinct of the municipal area, there is no priority plan for the beach,” he said.
Residents and some CSOs are working to place dustbins at the beach but the effort has been halted as of the Tatmadaw seized power on February 1, said Ko Tin Myo Aung, who is leading the effort to place dustbins there.
“We bought dustbins. However, the military staged a coup on February 1, and we dare not do anything for our plan. We have planned to work for rubbish at the beach,” he said.
Young people are criticising that if rubbish is not discarded systematically at the beach, there will also be risk for creatures in the sea and the beauty of the beach will be destroyed as well as visitors will be unsatisfied.
The Myebon Youth Association and Women Entrepreneur Promotion Association collected rubbish along Strand Road and Angu beach in February.
