A member of the Arakkha Army's (AA) nascent Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) was killed and two others were wounded during an ambush by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in Buthidaung Township on Tuesday, according to the AA.

The DLEPS members were reportedly searching for two missing men when they were ambushed by ARSA militants.

U San Shwe Maung, 67, and U Maung Mya Aung, 65, from No. 2 Ward in Buthidaung Town, went to Gone Nar village to cut bamboo at around 8 a.m. on Monday. Relatives reported to the DLEPS authority based in Ywama Village after the two men did not return by noon.

Three DLEPS members left their base at around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to search for the two missing men. They were ambushed by ARSA troops near the entrance of Gone Nar (Muslim) Village about five minutes later.

One DLEPS member, U Zaw Myint Oo, 41, from Oak Taung Village, was shot and killed, while the other two members of his company were injured. The ARSA attackers also set their motorbike alight.

The AA said it is pursuing the ARSA troops that carried out the ambush, as well as continuing its search for the two missing villagers.

The AA said it would not allow any terrorist organisation to operate in Arakan State and is determined to root out both individual terrorists and affiliated groups.
