The caseload of Covid-19 infections in most Arakan State townships is decreasing, but new cases are still elevated in Buthidaung Township, according to figures from the Arakan State regime council.
Ten more Covid-19 cases were detected in Buthidaung Township on September 26, a report from the state’s regime council said.
It has been a week since a new Covid-19 case was reported at Buthidaung Township Hospital, but new cases have been detected at the military hospital in Buthidaung, said Dr. Saw Min Than from the township’s Department of Medical Services.
“There are no news cases at the township General Hospital. The lone patient was also discharged from the hospital yesterday,” Dr. Saw Min Than said.
A total of 174 cases and six deaths were reported at Buthidaung Township General Hospital during the third wave of Covid-19, which began in May, according to figures from the township’s Health Department.
The caseload and death toll in Arakan State during the third wave of Covid-19 has so far been more than seven times higher than the previous coronavirus waves, but the infection rate has been decreasing gradually since early August.
A daytime curfew/stay-at-home order after 12 noon was imposed in Gwa Township since August 25 because the Covid-19 infection rate there was a persistent concern.
Dr. Kaung Myat San, superintendent of Gwa Township Hospital, said: “The number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing now.”
According to state Health Department figures issued on September 26, a total of 1,003 cases and 32 related fatalities were recorded in Gwa Township during the third wave, but only four new cases were detected on September 27.
The previous Ministry of Health and Sports said more than 4,200 cases and 37 deaths were reported in Arakan State during the first and second waves of Covid-19.
As of September 26, a total of 4,832 cases and 466 deaths were reported in Arakan State during the third wave, according to figures from the state’s regime council.
