Storm victims in Arakan State displacement camps need financial assistance
Internally displaced people (IDPs) are in need of assistance as displaced camps in Mrauk-U, Ponnagyun, Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships, which were badly damaged by strong winds that swept through Arakan State on May 21.

Internally displaced people (IDPs) are in need of assistance as displaced camps in Mrauk-U, Ponnagyun, Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships, which were badly damaged by strong winds that swept through Arakan State on May 21.
Gusty winds tore down roofs and walls of makeshift tents in the displacement camps. IDPs are in need of financial assistance to repair their damaged homes, according to camp officials.
Strong winds damaged 32 homes in Sinbawkaing IDP camp in Mrauk-U Township, Ko Nyi Pu, manager of the displacement camp, told DMG.
“The strong winds damaged many homes in the displacement camp. The damaged homes need to be repaired ahead of the rainy season,” he added.
The strong winds also blew away tarpaulins on homes in Gandaryon IDP camp in downtown Buthidaung, according to Ko Maung Kan, manager of the displacement camp. “The strong winds blew away tarpaulins on homes in our camp. We need tarpaulins,” he said.
The roofs of at least 220 homes made of tarpaulins and palm leaves in Nyaung Chaung IDP camp, Kyauktaw Township, were damaged by the strong winds as well.
The gusty winds also reportedly damaged as many as 20 homes at Sethmuezone IDP camp in Ponnagyun Township.
