Two civilians were killed and at least 10 others were injured in a junta airstrike on Kanhtaunggyi Town, part of Arakan State's Myebon Township, on Wednesday evening.

The aerial bombardment hit a monastery and an adjacent temple, as well as a religious hall and nearby homes.

"A junta jet fighter carried out airstrikes two times, killing two civilians and wounding at least 10 others. Currently, the exact number of victims is not known. There are many injured," said a resident of Kanhtaunggyi.

"The junta airstrike hit the monastery. Many senior citizens keeping the Sabbath at the monastery were injured in the regime air assault," said another resident of Kanhtaunggyi.

A junta airstrike on Kanhtaunggyi Town on March 22 destroyed two schools, eight homes and an ice factory.

On March 23, two residents were killed and one was injured in Myebon Township's Thayet Taung Village.

The regime has increasingly used airstrikes that have appeared to target civilian areas, resulting in numerous civilian casualties.

Critics of the junta have said these attacks amount to war crimes.
