One civilian was killed and six others were reportedly injured in a junta aerial assault on Thandwe, which is held by the Arakkha Army (AA) in Arakan State, on Monday evening.
The civilian casualties were reported after bombs dropped by a junta jet fighter fell and exploded in Nyaungpinzay Ward and Thamotechaung Village on December 23.
“A junta jet fighter dropped several bombs on Nyaungpinzay Ward and Thamotechaung Village on Monday evening, killing one civilian and wounding six others. We heard the sounds of gunfire,” said a source on the ground.
U Phoe Kyaw, a man in his 40s, was killed on the spot and Daw Khin Khin Nwe, U Than Win and Daw Ma Lone from Nyaungpinzay Ward, and U Aung Thein Tin, Daw Aye Aye Than and Daw Nwe Nwe from Thamotechaung Village were injured in the regime’s aerial bombardment.
The regime has continued to bomb Thandwe and 11 civilian casualties were reported in three separate junta airstrikes from December 17 to 23.
“Some local residents dare not live in Thandwe and some have fled to safer locations due to the junta’s frequent airstrikes. People in Thandwe live in fear,” said a local woman.
Civilian casualties continue to rise in Arakan State due to the regime’s frequent airstrikes on residential areas.
