Arakan Army attacks four new outposts near junta's Nat Yay Kan base

The Arakan Army is launching offensives against four newly constructed outposts established by the military junta to protect its strategic Nat Yay Kan hilltop base along the Ann-Padan Road, according to a military source.

The Arakan Army began attacking two small outposts near Gotegyi Village and two air defence outposts near Pazi Village on August 19, the source said.

"Offensives are underway against two outposts along the old Ann-Padan Road and two outposts along the new road, all connected to Nat Yay Kan. The junta is responding with airstrikes and heavy artillery support. Intense fighting continued on August 21," the source said.

The outposts were newly built by the military junta to prevent the fall of the Nat Yay Kan hilltop base, with continuous ground reinforcements also being deployed.

On August 16, a 200-strong junta column advancing from Gotegyi Village to reinforce the Nat Yay Kan strategic base was forced to retreat with heavy casualties after being intercepted by the Arakan Army.

An observer monitoring military affairs in Arakan State noted, "Clashes around the Nat Yay Kan base largely depend on military movements and reinforcement efforts. As the military is fiercely trying to hold Nat Yay Kan, the situation appears headed toward a prolonged conflict."

Since July, the military junta has attempted to reinforce the Nat Yay Kan base using columns of hundreds of troops dispatched from the Northwestern Command.

The Arakan Army has been attacking the Nat Yay Kan strategic base since early 2025 and has captured major perimeter outposts. However, with continuous military reinforcements and newly expanded outposts, the battle remains in a stalemate.
