An internally displaced couple from Wibizatadi IDP camp in Sittwe, Arakan State, died from food poisoning on July 6, according to the Shwe Yaung Myitta Foundation.
U Min Htal War, chair of the social welfare association, said the IDP couple died from food poisoning after they had globefish curry and later mistakenly ate goose gall instead of boa’s gall.
“They cooked globefish curry and ate it yesterday. After having the curry, aiming to prevent poisoning, they needed to eat boa’s gall, but what they ate was goose gall. Then, they were sent to hospital and died from food poisoning,” he said.
The deceased were identified as 40-year-old U Nan Oo Kyaw and 30-year-old Daw Than Nu Sein from Auk Mon Htauk village in Kyauktaw Township.
Moreover, two other adults and five children from the same IDP camp who also ate the globefish curry have been receiving emergency medical treatment at hospital in Sittwe.
“They have suffered from dizziness and vomiting, which are symptoms of poisoning. Currently, they are in good condition,” said U Min Htal War.
The five IDP children are originally from Aung Tha Byay village in Maungdaw Township, and the two adults are from Mee Lat Wa village in Paletwa Township, Chin State.
