The Arakkha Army (AA) has blocked the section of the Taungup-Padaung road linking Arakan State with Bago Region for an indefinite period starting from June 12, according to a reliable source.
The regime had been using the road to reinforce troop positions in Arakan State, the AA said.
“The regime sent reinforcements to Taungup in Arakan State via Padaung Township in Bago Region. This is the reason why the AA blocks the road section,” the source explained.
DMG continues to attempt to contact U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson for the AA, regarding the matter.
Myanmar’s military regime has sent hundreds of Muslim conscripts to reinforce its battalions in Taungup Town, Arakan State, since early June.
“People are in a state of panic. There are rumours that fighting will erupt in Taungup soon. I don’t know exactly what will happen in Taungup. Locals are worried about their safety,” said a Taungup resident.
Military tensions between the military and AA are running high in Taungup Township and regime forces have been firing mortar shells since June 13, according to locals.
The AA on April 2 declared an indefinite emergency closure of the vital transport road linking Ann Township to Padan Village in Magway Region’s Ngape Township until further notice.
