Roads, bridges, electricity and government offices are being built in Laytaung town, Ramree Township, and infrastructure projects are being upgraded as in other towns, according to the town implementation committee.
U Aung Naing Tun, secretary of the Laytaung Town Implementation Committee, said the infrastructure upgrade was 10% complete.
“The road is now being paved with concrete. Construction of power transmission lines will be completed in all areas of the town. The construction of the General Administration Department, which is the government office, is about halfway done. When all this is done, it will be 10% complete,” he said.
Laytaung Town is made up of 15 villages — five villages in Ward-1, three villages in Ward-2, three villages in Ward-3, two villages each in Ward-4 and Ward-5.
U Aung Naing Tun said the projects under construction were planned by the previous government and that it was not clear how they would proceed under the current State Administration Council.
Laytaung “Area” was promoted to Laytaung town on September 12, 2019, by the government.
The locals in Laytaung town are mainly engaged in fishing and farming, as well as sculpting, painting and embroidering.
With Laytaung now classified as a town, locals expect that their socio-economic status will improve.
