Arakanese singer Myet Ni aka Ko Nyi Nyi, who was born in Arakan State’s Ponnagyun town, died of Covid-19 at his home in Yangon’s Tamwe Township on Friday evening, according to family members.

“He died of Covid-19 at about 9:30 last night. He was very crazy about the arts. He gave up his professional career and entered the art world,” U Tun Tun, an older brother of Ko Myet Ni, told DMG.

Ko Myet Ni had been successful in the goldsmithing business and “entered the art world” in 2011, he said.

“Some even described him as being like rocker Lay Phyu. He was not as successful as he should have been as a singer. He also died during the political unrest due to medical difficulties,” U Tun Tun added.

Ko Myet Ni used to play that guitar every time he took a break from his work as a goldsmith, said Ko Aung Kyi Moe, a cousin who lived with the deceased.

“He entered the music industry after he contacted the band IC [Iron Cross]. He also said that he was trying to sing [and popularise] rock music in the Arakanese language. Now he is dead before his dreams could come true,” he added.

Ko Myet Ni produced two albums, titled “One-Hundred Punishments” and “Deviation Force.”
