Three people including the political and social activist Ko Zaw Win aka Ludu Zaw Win, who were detained by the Myanmar military last month, were reportedly transferred to Kyauktaw Myoma police station on Tuesday afternoon.
The three men were handed over to the police station by the military, said a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The trio are in good health and are being held in police custody,” the unnamed resident added.
The three detainees — Ko Zaw Win from Pyidawtha ward; U Kyaw Min Naung, 41, from Khaungtoke village; and Ko Zaw Moe Het, a 27-year-old from Panphechaung village — were arrested on June 21 and were not able to meet with their families for about two weeks.
Daw Khin Hla Zan, the wife of Ko Zaw Win, told DMG that she was happy to have had a chance to meet the three detainees at Kyauktaw Myoma police station on Tuesday.
“They are in good health. They were not reportedly beaten or tortured by security personnel. The other detainees also met with their family members. It’s a pleasure to meet and talk with my husband like this,” she added.
The three men were charged with incitement under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code on July 1, but the men say they do not know what specifically they are being accused of.
The military arrested the trio following the Arakan Army’s detention of three policemen from Kyauktaw Myoma police station on June 20.
