Three people including the political and social activist Ko Zaw Win aka Ludu Zaw Win, who were charged with incitement under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code, appeared before a Kyauktaw court on Wednesday, according to family members.
The trio were arraigned for the first time, said U San Hla Kyaw, the father of detainee Ko Zaw Moe Htet.
“The court rescheduled the next hearing for July 21 and the judge didn’t question them [on Wednesday],” he added.
The three detainees from Kyauktaw Township — Ko Zaw Win from Pyidawtha ward; U Kyaw Min Naung, 41, from Khaungtoke village; and Ko Zaw Moe Het, a 27-year-old from Panphechaung village — were arrested on June 21.
U Kyaw Than Maung and Ko Zaw Moe Htet were prosecuted after the military allegedly found photos of the Arakan Army on their mobile phones, according to family members. It is still not known why Ko Zaw Win was charged.
The military arrested at least 50 locals in Sittwe, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun and Mrauk-U townships last month, after the Arakan Army detained 14 junta soldiers and police personnel.
The Myanmar military has not released any information on the condition or status of the detainees.
