An 18-year-old man from Arakan State’s Mrauk-U Township who lost both legs in a landmine blast reportedly succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Maung Soe Naing Kyaw, a resident of Aung Mingalar Ward in Mrauk-U town. He lost both legs after encountering the landmine while on his way to a hill to search for mushrooms on September 29.
“As soon as he stepped on the landmine, he was thrown, rolled down the hill, and ended up the edge of the hill. When we took his body, we saw he had lost his two legs. He didn’t lose consciousness when we admitted him to a hospital by ambulance,” said a resident of Mrauk-U.
The landmine victim was pronounced dead at the Mrauk-U People’s Hospital.
“He had to be transfused with four bottles of blood and had to receive medical treatment. The victim died at the hospital at around 11 p.m. due to the severity of his injuries,” the Mrauk-U resident added.
