Fighting has intensified since the Arakan Army (AA) launched an attack on a junta tactical command base in Samee town, Chin State, on December 14.
The military responded to the AA’s offensive with artillery attacks and aerial support during the hostilities.
“The fighting is still intensifying. The military responded to the AA’s offensive with artillery attacks and aerial support,” said a local resident of Samee.
Samee, a remote town in southern Chin State, is home to about 8,000 people and nearly all local people were displaced by the junta airstrikes.
“Residents in Samee town have fled to safer locations since yesterday. Only a few residents remain in Samee. No civilian casualties were reported. IDPs face livelihood hardships,” said another resident in Samee town.
Fierce fighting between the military and AA has been intensifying in Paletwa Township since November 14. The Arakan Army occupied junta tactical command outposts in Taron Eain and Nonebu villages, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
It has been about one month since the regime blockaded roads and waterways in Paletwa Township, where locals are facing food shortages and price hikes.
