A junta jet fighter dropped multiple bombs on Tokechaung Village, part of Arakan State’s Myebon Township, on June 19, killing two locals and injuring five others.

“A junta jet fighter dropped bombs on the village two times. One of the bombs fell and exploded near a bridge at an entrance to the village, killing two locals and wounding five others. The regime carried out an air attack without any fighting in the area,” said a local woman.

The deceased have been identified as Maung Aung Naing, 11, and Ko Oo Kyee Shwe, 27. The five injured have been identified as Maung Khaing Khaing Oo, 16, Ma Thidar, 23, Ma Khin Soe Chay, 28, Daw Ma Sein, 48, and U Maung Naing Oo, 48, all sustaining injuries of varying degrees of severity.

Elsewhere, five people were reportedly killed in a junta airstrike on Kanseik Village on Pantin Island in the west of Taungup Township, Arakan State, on June 18.

As the regime’s targeted attacks on civilians in Arakan State, where fighting between the Myanmar military and Arakkha Army (AA) continues to intensify, cause mounting civilian casualties, residents are living in fear.

“If the regime attacks with fighter jets, it affects civilian areas. Even if the locals hear the sound of cars and motorbikes, they think it’s a fighter jet,” said a local woman in Kyauktaw Township.

The AA, which has thus far seized nine townships in Arakan State, Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State, and scores of military camps elsewhere in Arakan State, is currently targeting junta positions in Maungdaw, Ann, Taungup and Thandwe townships.
