An automobile crash occurred on Tuesday morning involving a crane truck and a vehicle from the Ywarma ward social welfare association in Gwa Township, which was on its way to Thandwe town to pick up oxygen needed by their township’s hospital.
The crane truck drove off, said the Htarwara Metta social welfare association in Gwa Township. The Ywarma association’s vehicle sustained some damage but there were no reports of injuries.
“At a turn near Kyar Kaik village, our vehicle was in the lane nearest to the roadside. The crane truck was driving in the opposite direction and its rear hit the front part of our vehicle,” said U Soe Naing, the driver for the welfare association vehicle.
Social welfare associations in Gwa Township provide assistance amid the Covid-19 crisis by alternating turns transporting oxygen, with the Ywarma ward association on the schedule for August 17.
As the Ywama ward association’s vehicle was damaged, the group has asked for help from other social welfare organisations to transport oxygen.
The driver and passengers of the crane truck that fled the scene following the crash were detained by residents of Bazun Phyay village in Thandwe Township and transferred to local traffic police custody.
A total of 106 traffic accidents resulting in 75 deaths and 136 injuries were reported in Arakan State during the first six months of 2021, according to the Arakan State Traffic Police.
