The Myanmar military has recently been conducting raids in Yekyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, resulting in intense fighting between the military and coalition anti-regime forces led by the Arakan Army (AA).

Locals said a military column coming from the direction of a junta tactical base in Yekyi Township and a joint force headed by the AA had been fighting near Saw Pyar Village since the morning of July 14.

"The military regime is trying to control the Pathein-Monywa road," said a local man in Yekyi Township.

Locals said that clashes between military and anti-regime forces were continuing into the morning of July 15 near Saw Pyar Village, with the regime providing heavy weapons support from a tactical base.

Fighting between the two sides has been sporadic since March 2025 near Saw Pyar Village, but clashes have become more intense in recent days.

The Myanmar military raids were carried out because the AA and its allies controlled Saw Pyar Village and its surrounding area.

Military sources said a junta tactical base was set up to control the Pathein-Monywa road and the No. 344 Artillery Battalion in Yekyi Township.

"The military regime feared losing control of the Pathein-Monywa road and was also concerned about the military importance of the No. 344 Artillery Battalion in Yekyi Township, so a tactical base was built at Mt. Nagarit," said a military source in Ayeyarwady Region. "The junta tactical base was also close to the Yay Nant Tha security checkpoint, making it a more convenient location for the military regime to provide supplies."

Most of the villages in Yekyi, Laymyethna and Ingapu townships on the Pathein-Monywa road are reportedly controlled by anti-regime forces.

The AA and local resistance groups are conducting joint military operations on the Ayeyarwady front, and have captured at least 10 camps, including military outposts and police stations belonging to the regime.
