Two Maungdaw Twsp villagers hospitalised after beating by unknown armed group
Two villagers from Aungthukha village in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, were allegedly beaten by an unidentified group while cutting bamboo at the foot of the Mayu mountain range and are being treated at Maungdaw Hospital for injuries.

Two villagers from Aungthukha village in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, were allegedly beaten by an unidentified group while cutting bamboo at the foot of the Mayu mountain range and are being treated at Maungdaw Hospital for injuries.
The two men were beaten and then released by an armed group on the morning of January 21, said village administrator U Thein Thein Tun.
“Two villagers were abducted by an armed group. Two abductees were beaten and released later. The victims were admitted to Maungdaw Hospital to receive medical treatment,” the village administrator added.
The victims have been identified as U Kyaw Zaw Aung, 53, and U Min Thaik Tun, 38, from Aungthukha village.
“Two armed Muslims came and arrested us at gunpoint while we were chopping bamboo near the foothills of the Mayu mountain range at around 10 a.m. on January 21. When we met with three other Muslims, they beat us with gunstocks and stabbed us with bamboo sticks,” U Min Thaik Tun said.
The duo were released in the afternoon, and U Kyaw Zaw Aung is currently in and out of consciousness. U Min Thaik Tun is being treated at Maungdaw Hospital for a stab wound to his ankle and a right arm wound.
Five Muslim men working in a prawn pond in Udaung village, Maungdaw Township, were abducted by an unidentified group in November of last year and were released 10 days later.
