A civilian was killed and five others were severely injured in a junta airstrike on Mintet Village, part of Arakan State’s Ann Township, at around 2 p.m. on Saturday.

A junta jet fighter dropped bombs on the Mintet Bridge and a jetty north of the village two times, killing a 16-year-old teenage boy and injuring five others ranging in age from 13 to 30.

“The victims were injured when a junta jet fighter dropped bombs on the Mintet Bridge and a jetty while they were selling vegetables. Their conditions are considered life-threatening,” an eyewitness said.

Five people sustained injuries to their abdomen, legs, and arms and are being treated at a nearby hospital.

The AA has been attacking junta positions in Ann Township, where the Myanmar military’s Western Command headquarters is based, since March 24.

The Mintet Bridge is 60 ft. long and built of bricks and links Mintet Village with Htanpyin Village. Details of the damage are not yet known.

Local people are afraid of the junta airstrike and dare not go outside their homes, another local resident said.

“We can’t go and look everywhere. Junta airstrikes could cause more casualties and damage. The exact damage cannot be said yet,” the local resident added.

Civilian casualties are on the rise as the regime increasingly fires heavy weapons and carries out airstrikes on towns held by the AA and towns where fighting is intensifying.

At least 10 civilians were reportedly injured in a junta airstrike on Minbya town on April 30.

Sixteen civilians were killed and 69 others were injured by junta shellings and airstrikes in Arakan State last month, according to a DMG tally, which notes that the death toll on teh ground could well be higher.
