Military and police personnel carried out arrests of some residents of Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, over two consecutive days this week for their alleged participation in the anti-regime “Six Twos revolution” on February 22.
Junta forces checked overnight guests at houses in some wards of Mawlamyine town at around 11 p.m. on February 24 and arrested at least five men, a Mawlamyine resident told DMG.
The five men were interrogated at Daiwunkwin police station and details of their situation remain unknown, relatives said.
On February 22, several young political activists handed out pamphlets at Mawlamyine town’s Lower Market as a part of a “Six Twos revolution” campaign.
At least nine vendors were arrested for allegedly participating in the campaign, said a resident living near the market.
“About 30 soldiers and police came to the Lower Market. They arrested nine vendors for accepting the pamphlets distributed on February 22,” the resident said.
At least 30 political activists and dissidents in Mawlamyine town have been arrested and are facing trial on politically motivated charges since the beginning of this year.
