The Arakkha Army (AA) relaunched an offensive targeting the military's Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 in Arakan State's Maungdaw Town on Sunday evening, according to local sources.

The AA clashed fiercely with the military near Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 at around 7:30 p.m. on November 3, with two junta jet fighters dropping bombs on AA positions.

"The AA relaunched its offensive attack on Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 yesterday, with the regime responding to the ethnic armed group's assault with aerial support. The regime suffered heavy casualties in clashes with the AA," said a source on the ground.

The AA's campaign to capture Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 was suspended in the last week of October, but the ethnic armed group relaunched the effort in early November.

A Y-12 military aircraft has been providing food and weapons to Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 since the last week of October and a junta reconnaissance aircraft is carrying out an aerial bombardment on AA positions in the area.

Maungdaw residents say civilian casualties are rising due to the regime's airstrikes, with many living in fear.

"Locals dare not sleep at home due to junta airstrikes yesterday. Some locals sleep in the jungle," said a resident.

Four displaced civilians were killed and two people including an abbot were injured in regime air attacks on a Buddhist monastery in Pyarthar Village, Maungdaw Township, at around 7 p.m. on November 2.

Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 is the only junta battalion left standing in Maungdaw, where the AA has seized all the other regime positions over recent months.
